IASTM

What is IASTM?
IASTM stands for instrument assisted soft tissue manipulation and is a rehabilitation technique that is commonly used for sprains, strains, and other soft tissue injuries. IASTM is a type of soft tissue work that is used to help muscles to relax and heal after injury. A practitioner uses an instrument to break up adhesions and increase blood flow to muscles. At Tauberg Chiropractic & Rehabilitation, Dr. Tauberg uses FAKTR technique to help patients in the Fox Chapel and greater Pittsburgh areas.
Why get IASTM?
IASTM is thought to help soft tissue structures such as muscles, tendons, and ligaments heal. It likely does this through two main processes. It increases blood flow to the area which allows for injured tissues to get the nutrients that they need in order to heal. IASTM also helps the soft tissue during the remodeling phase. After an injury such as a sprain or a strain fibrous adhesions made of scar tissues will build up in the injured tissue. IASTM may help prevent these adhesions from forming and when they do form it may help to loosen them up.
