Kinesiology and Athletic Taping
Kinesiology Taping
Kinesiology taping is the use of elastic tape around injured areas to reduce pain and potentially protect the area. It can be an effective way to reduce the amount of pain that one perceives. This is useful when either performing a sport or doing rehabilitation while injured. Kinesology tape can help to distract from the injury to allow for the person to perform exercises or activities with the proper form. Regardless of if kinesiology tape is used or not it is unwise to push your self too far into pain while injured. Doing so can exacerbate or worsen your condition.
Athletic Taping
Athletic taping, which is also known as strapping, is the use of white medical tape to stabilize an injured or unstable area. This type of taping is performed to stabilize an area. This can be useful for when someone has an injury that they do not want to exacerbate. Athletic tape is commonly seen on football players ankles and wrists. Using athletic tape is believed to not only prevent an injury from becoming worse, but it may also prevent some injuries from happening.
